The Hong Kong Securities and Exchange Commission (SFC) today issued a public warning about the scams committed by scammers in the name of the SFC.
It has come to the attention of the SFC that scammers mimic some SFC senior executives and well -known stock commentators have approached the public through e -“fishing” and falsification messages from SFC.
In some of the reported cases, the scammers talked about the executive director of the SFC enforcement, Mr. Christopher Wilson and sent misleading emails that urge recipients to respond or click on built -in links. The intention of these links is the installation of malware or ransomware in the computers of the recipients that respond to these emails.
In other cases, they put SFC’s chief financial director, Mr. Andrew Wan, to obtain the contact details of the recipients through e -mail messages on the pretext of a “data reconciliation process”.
These scammers often use areas of email that are very similar to the official SFC sector, but they are fraudulent. Examples of such false sectors include “@sfc.hk.slotsitesxuk.org” and “@sfc.hk.zitirxsend.com”. The recipients aimed at these cases included SFC licensed companies and their staff.
Other cases mentioned in which scammers talked about stock commentators included circulating SFC documents to investors, resulting in financial losses in investors who could be linked to market handling in some cases.
The SFC stresses that all these messages and claims are fraudulent and encourages the public to care about undesirable communications:
- Do not respond to unwanted emails or click suspect links or attachments.
- Verify staff identities and authenticity of any SFC communication through official channels by contacting SFC at enquiry@sfc.hk.
- SFC’s official e -mail is @sfc.hk. Any variant of this is fraudulent.
- Do not send money or disclose account details if requested by anyone who claims to be SFC staff or you have confidential news that demand stock markets, investment programs or tax payments.
- Indicate any suspicious fake, fake documents or suspicious communications immediately to the SFC or the Police.
