The ASX today announced the appointment of former Reserve Bank of Australia Governor Dr Philip Lowe as Chair of its newly formed Corporate Governance Advisory Group (AGCG).

The AGCG has been established to replace the ASX Corporate Governance Council, following the recommendations of an expert review panel report published on 16 October 2025.
The ASX, with the support of the AGCG, has taken formal responsibility for the development, approval and issuance of the ASX Corporate Governance Principles and Recommendations.
As an independent Chairman, Dr Lowe will be supported by a small team of experts representing a range of issuers and investors and providing deep experience in the governance of listed entities.

Dr. Lowe brings decades of experience to the role. A respected Australian economist, he began his career at the Reserve Bank of Australia in 1980 and eventually served as Governor from 2016 to 2023. Since leaving the Reserve Bank, he has held select roles, including Chairman of the social investment company Future Generation and serving on the boards of the (Capital) Barnerrensdia Library Research Institute.
Nominations for membership of the AGCG are now open and will be sought from relevant peak bodies and other stakeholders, aiming to reflect a pool of issuers, investors and other industry experts with deep experience in the governance of listed entities. Examples of sought-after AGCG members include a major President, CEO or Chief Investment Officer. Director of a listed company, ideally with experience in large and small listed entities. experienced investment manager; listed company secretary; and stockbroker with broad expertise in retail and institutional investors.
The establishment of the AGCG is part of a series of initiatives underway at the ASX, including the recent release of a consultation paper on potential changes to the ASX Listing Rules relating to shareholder approval of dilutive takeovers and changes to the listing regime for dual-listed entities.
