BBVA Germany is expanding its digital offering with a new “Bargeld via App” redemption feature. From now on, customers can deposit cash directly into their BBVA account at participating supermarket and retail cash desks – quickly, securely and without visiting a bank branch.
With this new feature, BBVA is expanding its partnership with leading payment platform Paysafe through its PaysafeCash solution (marketed as Viacash in Germany), which already enables cash-out in retail stores without a minimum purchase requirement.
Both features work by generating a barcode in the BBVA app, which is scanned at checkout to complete the transaction. In addition to approximately 50,000 ATMs with the Mastercard logo where customers can withdraw cash, BBVA is further improving the availability of cash for its customers. Cashout and cashout via ‘Bargeld via App’, powered by Paysafe, are a complete, friendly everyday cash solution integrated into BBVA’s fully digital banking experience.
“As a digital bank, we rely on smart partnerships to offer our customers maximum cash flexibility,” says Luís Fiestas de Fuentes, Head of Digital Banking at BBVA Germany. “Together with Paysafe, we’re creating a modern and convenient way to integrate cash into digital banking – seamless and relevant to everyday life.”
Paysafe also sees the expansion of the partnership as an important step: “Integrating the barcode solution into the BBVA app enables simple, secure and convenient cash withdrawals and deposits right where people shop,” says Bob Legters, Paysafe’s Chief Product Officer. “The addition of the cash-in function makes BBVA customers even more independent from traditional bank branches.”
The new feature complements the digital bank’s existing offering and adds another convenient feature to its permanently free and long-term paid current account.
The new “Bargeld via app” function is now available to all BBVA private customers in Germany in the BBVA app. During the introductory phase from October 20, 2025 to January 31, 2026, deposits will be completely free. From February 1, 2026, a commission of 1.4% of the deposited amount will apply.
