Cboe Options Exchange (C1) has filed an SEC rule allowing it to list options on exchange-traded products (ETPs) that hold Bitcoin, including those for which SEC approval is expected during the week of January 8, 2024.
Cboe Options’ current rules generally allow it to list options on an ETP three days after the ETP’s shares begin trading on a national securities exchange. However, these rules do not apply to ETPs that hold commodities such as Bitcoin.
In addition to Cboe’s rule submitting to SEC approval, Cboe understands that the OCC may need certain approvals from its regulators (SEC and CFTC) to permit it to issue and clear these options. Cboe intends to list these options once all regulatory approvals are received, which is expected later in 2024.
