Clearstream Banking informed its customers that from January 1, 2026, the Republic of Bulgaria will officially participate in the eurozone and adopt the euro (Eur) as a national currency.

On July 8, 2025, the Council of the European Union adopted the last three legal acts required for Bulgaria to introduce the euro. One of these acts sets the official conversion rate on:

1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN

This fixed rate is based on the current central rate of Bulgarian Lev (BGN) on the exchange rate mechanism (ERM II).

The conversion from BGN to the Euro will be divided by dividing the price into BGN from the full value of the exchange rate specified for this purpose, which is expressed in five decimal places.

The resulting amount of the euro must be rounded to the second decimal, applying the third decimal rule of rounding, in accordance with the following rule:

  • If the third decimal is less than five, the second decimal decimal remains unchanged.
  • If the third decimal is greater than or equal to five, the second decimal decimal increases by one unit.

The nominal value of a share is converted from BGN to EUR. The nominal value in BGN is divided by the full value of the official exchange rate and the result is rounded according to the above rounding rule.

The total nominal value of debit securities in BGN is divided by the full value of the official exchange rate and receives the nominal value of the issue in the Euro. The result received is rounded in the second decimal according to the above rounding rule.

The nominal value of a bond in the euro is achieved by dividing the total nominal value of the issue of bonds received in the euro with the number of bonds on the matter.

The nominal value of government bonds will be converted from BGN to Eur. The result received is rounded in the second decimal in accordance with the above rounding contract.
