On June 18, Euronet is holding a one-day protest aimed at drawing the attention of consumers, decision-makers and business partners to the current situation of ATM operators in Poland.
Today, Euronet lowers the domestic cash withdrawal limit to PLN 200 per transaction.
The reason, according to Euronet, is that VISA, Mastercard and BLIK do not cover the costs of domestic cash withdrawals from ATMs which are borne by ATM operators in Poland.
According to Euronet, domestic cash withdrawals are made by ATM operators in Poland more than double the cost they incur for such a service. The disproportion between revenue and cost of domestic withdrawal transactions, in a situation of increasing demand for cash taken from ATMs and decreasing possibilities to subsidize domestic withdrawals with other revenue sources, poses the risk of being unable to continue to maintain ATM networks.
Consequently, a significant part of society is cut off from access to cash, especially in smaller towns, where ATMs are often the only source. At the same time, ATM withdrawal fees, set and collected by banks from ATM users, are constantly increasing, further increasing the barrier to access cash.
