Exclusive FNG… FNG has learned that London-based XTX Markets, one of the world’s leading market makers and algo trading firms, has tapped Gabriele Papievyte to head its in-house venture capital division called, appropriately enough, XTX Ventures.
Gabriele Papievyte joined XTX Ventures as Chief Investment Officer in the middle of last year. He was previously an Investment Partner at the Canadian venture capital firm Inovia Capital.
XTX Ventures was founded in 2017, but was not revealed by the firm until 2020, led by former Deutsche Bank corporate strategist Ekaterina Holt, who left the group in 2021. XTX Markets’ VC arm invests mainly in early-stage companies stage with machine learning as a key technology, typically Seed to Series A stage. While XTX Ventures typically writes checks in the £500,000 – £5,000,000 range, it is also required to make larger / later stage investments that are considered strategic to the role of XTX Markets as liquidity provider. To date, XTX Ventures has registered investments in 27 portfolio companies.
