Genesis today announced the release of version 8.1 of the Genesis App Platform, which brings developers a set of powerful new tools that streamline app development and increase app capabilities.
Coming just 30 days after the release of 8.0, it also marks the beginning of a new, monthly pace in which Genesis will officially roll out new tools and features for users.
New functionality in version 8.1 is found in the development suite, the application runtime environment, and the Marketplace component of the platform.
“Our priority is to make it faster for developers to experience that eureka moment when they fully understand the platform’s capabilities,” said Tej Sidhu, Chief Technology Officer at Genesis.
The platform improvements in 8.1 come from extensive industry engagement and user feedback. The platform testing and sandbox program launched by Genesis makes it easier than ever for developers to dealers, asset managers and consultants to experience Genesis. By supporting testing and client users, Genesis identifies the tools and features that would further assist developers and facilitate platform integration.
For example, Bank of America, BNY and Citi, strategic partners with Genesis, noted that their development teams will benefit from faster ways to launch Genesis projects and new tools to address challenges in creating user interfaces. In response, Genesis developed Create, a web-based tool for launching projects and running new applications in minutes, and View, a tool for converting screenshots to web interface code for adding and updating interfaces to an application. Build updates are part of version 8.1.
Platform updates from Genesis pay immediate dividends to users. In a recent sandbox experiment, one consulting firm noted that the app built in one day with Genesis would have taken them weeks with other coding methodologies.
The enhancements in version 8.1 help users address a diverse set of financial business requirements and use cases, from replacing spreadsheets and automating manual processes to building applications that act as “scaffolding” to improve vendor systems to create new innovative services.
8.1 Main Traffic Points
- Matcher component: a lightweight component joins the Matcher solution in the Marketplace to give developers more options in how they bring matchmaking capabilities to their apps. The new component allows users to configure user interface elements, rules and workflows, and the business logic of data source integration and outage detection.
- Direct data integration: improved integration with external REST APIs makes it seamless to connect Genesis apps to data lakes, data fabrics, and other sources without having to maintain a copy.
- Local development performance: a 30%+ reduction in memory usage on local machines facilitates better performance and a more productive local environment.
- Accessibility compliance: enhancements improve how Genesis apps comply with W3C accessibility standards, helping people with visual impairments.
- Updates to Genesis Create: improvements to user rights configuration, table views, and unit tests for event handlers improve the quality of applications that users can develop using Create.
- Improved Angular support: extensive Angular convention compliance helps developers work efficiently in their preferred UI framework while using Genesis and Create.
The Genesis platform is designed to deliver full-stack applications that require high-performance transaction processing, event-driven workflows, real-time data integrations, and rich, interactive user experiences.
