Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) is today urging the public to beware of instant text messages impersonating the SFC’s Chief Executive.
The SFC received a report from a member of the public who received text messages on WhatsApp, purportedly from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the SFC, Ms Julia Leung. These text messages contained investment recommendations.
The regulator has stressed that these instant text messages are a scam and has reported the case to the Police.
The SFC is reminding the public to be wary of fraudsters’ scams perpetrated via instant text messages and social media. The SFC also urges the public to refrain from sending money or personal information if solicited by people claiming to be SFC staff.
