Santander UK announced today that Mike Regnier has confirmed his intention to resign as CEO of the United Kingdom until the first quarter of 2026.
Mr Regnier joined the Santander UK in March 2022 and has overseen an important program of change and transformation in the business, culminating in the acquisition of the TSB Banking Group PLC by Banco Sabadell, subject to regulatory approval in July this year.
An appointment process to find Mike Regnier’s successor has begun.
Mike Regnier said:
“It is my intention to resign as Santander UK chief executive from Q1 2026 after four years of great strategic success for the business, culminating in the Group’s decision earlier this year to acquire a TSB to accelerate our transformation.
“It was my intention to move on with Santander after 4-5 years, as I have other interests that I would like to follow. Since the integration of the TSB would last much longer than that, I suggested to the Board that now it would be a good time to find a successor who could see this critical work until it was done.
“Integration will take time and focus, along with the ongoing conversion of Santander UK, which has a strong impulse under an excellent team and management. The shareholders, workers and economies we serve.
“The process of finding my successor is ongoing and I look forward to welcoming and delivering them in due time so that the momentum will continue.”
Mike Regnier was appointed CEO of Santander UK on April 1, 2022.
He joined the Santander UK by Yorkshire Building Society (“Ybs”), where he has been a member of the Board of Directors since 2014 and Managing Director since 2017.
Mike Regnier began his career in strategic consultation management of retail and retail financial services. After management positions in ASDA, he joined the banking sector and held several higher positions in the Lloyds Banking Group, including current personal accounts, credit card and product manager, and TSB marketing manager. He has been the director of the Visa UK Board of Directors and President of the LTSB Cardnet shopper. He was also president of the Association of Construction Companies from 2019 to 2021.
Mike Regnier holds a Meng in Engineering, Economic & Management from Oxford, along with an MBA from Insead.
