New Zealand’s financial regulator, the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) has issued a warning about a repossession scam using the name of its UK counterparty.
The FMA said it is aware that a New Zealand resident has been contacted by people claiming to be the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), under the guise of offering help to recover money lost in a previous fraud.
The email address used (harry.stone@fcafinances.com) is different from the email domains used by the FCA. The FCA advises on its website that emails should be sent from addresses ending in:
- fca.org.uk
- fcanewsletters.org.uk
- fcamails.org.uk
The New Zealand regulator said it was concerned it was a recovery scam using the FCA name. The FMA advises caution when dealing with people claiming to be from authorities offering help in recovering money.
