The Spanish Data Protection Authority (AEPD) has instructed Tools for Humanity Corporation to stop the collection and processing of personal data it carries out in Spain in the framework of the Worldcoin project.
AEPD has received several complaints against this company citing insufficient information about data collection, data collection from minors, or not being allowed to withdraw consent.
The processing of biometric data, which is considered in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as a special protection, poses high risks to people’s rights, considering their sensitive nature. Consequently, this precautionary measure is a decision based on exceptional circumstances, in which it is necessary and proportionate to take temporary measures aimed at immediately stopping this processing of personal data, preventing its possible transmission to third parties and ensuring the fundamental right on personal data protection.
The Worldcoin token (WLD) is a token distributed to people as unique individuals.
The Worldcoin website states:
“There are no guarantees as to how much WLD will be worth or whether it will have any value. Similar to other digital assets, the value of the Worldcoin token can change – even significantly – up or down. It will likely be determined by a number of factors that are not dependent on or controlled by any single group of people, including the total number of World ID holders, the range of apps that the developer community invents and builds, and supply of the brand in circulation.”
Everyone who has verified their uniqueness to an Orb can claim free Worldcoin (WLD) tokens in their World app as long as they are in a place where the WLD token is available. Currently eligible verified users can claim 1 free WLD token per week with no max.
